Inter religion

I attended my cousin's engagement on the 30th of April and was taken back to see the groom's side. They are not just Syrian christians but are very orthodox too.I could actually count the number of educated faces there & the stark contrast between the 2 families was very obvious.Loud voices,no basic manners & the list goes on..

Now, i know am being very judemental in my views but i still could not recover from the fact that my cousin who is a CA & MBA can choose someone who is not suitable to her in any way but except on what they call LOVE & gets converted just b'coz his family had asked her to do so.Am not a fanatic to say it's wrong but just couldn't get an answer to a question which is "why is it that the gal have to convert herself to her spouse's religion?"
Can't they never have marital bliss if she continues to remain an Iyer & he a christian?Beats me but then i think it's perfectly fine with some people..

After all LOVE IS BLIND isn't it?

There are two ways to look at this debate - Religion is something which i dont favour at all .. Suppose u are an iyer and am also one - so what ?? we didnt choose it rite ?? It's something which stuck to us from birth ..
And as far as the gal converting goes - i am not a male chauvanist or something, but it's more easy and practical. See - a guy's relatives matter more to the couple than the gal's relations (atleast in most castes). so it's much more easier for the gal to convert ..

And finally i do favour more intercaste marriages .. Coz someday there wont be any clear lines - something like who's hindu, who's iyer, who's etc etc .. Everyone will ultimately be of the same caste - the HUMAN one ..

"Why so? Why should guy's relatives matter more? Why is it always easy for gals to undergo all the changes while guys seem to be pathologically impervious to change? Above all, Why is this gentleman advocating these when he is not an MCP!"

Mmm....Ramaa. I can tell you 3 characteristics of MCPs:

1. They do not call themselves one (obviously, are they nuts?)
2. They make their point anyway, after a statutory, "am not an MCP" statement. (ref the above quote)
3. They always think that girls can do all the hard things easily and guys find the easy things hard to do
